Brown Angel

Brown angel you are dancing corridas, baile folklorico and cha cha cha all over the dance piso of my corazon
How can someone love anyone so much for so long?
I love you this way
And that way
and up and down and around the block and from the airplane and on land
In the lake and from my favorite swimming pool in the canyon
I love you from the Native gym where all the gente look just like us
I love you from those 7am three mile walks I take
I love you from the bathtub
From the car I am driving on the freeway
At all the RC workshops whether you are there or not
I have loved you
from Grand Central station in New York City, from
Chicago, Boston, Milwaukee, Portland and Santa Fe
I have loved you from Tejas and Tucson too
I even loved you from the Baja California beaches, Florida
And East L.A.
In Tijuana that love showed up tambien
I love you from the streets of San Francisco and Oakland my hometown
I even loved you from across the linea in Nogales, Sonora
What is a love struck mujer to do?
Brown angel you rule the beats in my heart, the percussion I play, the songs already sung y
mas to come
I love you and that is just the way it is and the way it always will be!
Tuya por vida!
Cactus Love

Visitation per phone ---
A voice comes one time per month.
I am a prisoner in a maximum-security facility of your love.
I cannot see or touch you,
Only hear the familiar syncopation of your Chicana twang
Through the Pacific Bell wires
One time per month;
And I am not starving,
It is just enough to keep this love roaring.
I can go great distances on one crumb,
One morsel of your attention.

Your voz massages my corazon
And my heart does not forget
The promised salvation
From the damnation of not having your love.
It is particular kind of love.
It is a mother’s love,
A familial love,
A cultura’s love ---
You are my Guadalupe,
My Malinche,
My llorona,
My muse,
My priest.

Hearing my confession
No me castiges,
I am not on my knees,
I am standing upright.

No longer afraid
To receive your communication,
I open my mouth to take your host,
You insert instructions and I obey.

I will wait forever,
Taking whatever I can get
In the realm of love, carino and desire,
You are completely mine
And I am yours.
My Chicana Goddess,
High priestess of ocotillo.
I am a snake and I slither through your spikes,
I bleed but I do not die.

And you remain,
Dentro de mi Corazon,
My nopala
Con las espinas bien dulces.
