I am a consumer.
You are a consumer.
We are consumers.
Do you really understand what I mean?
She does.
Consumer: (syn.) customer, purchaser, shopper, buyer, user, client,
media addict, and slave.
We have been raised, educated and trained in the "absolute
truth" that defines concepts such as freedom and happiness,
as the pursuit of our fulfillment based on satisfying our never-ending
material desires. It means, that we are truly free and happy when
we are able to get every kind of object, which we have been dreaming
about and convinced we need to live.
The inward journey to the self-understanding of commonsense and
peace of soul is replaced by the roaring of any engine that promises
freedom, superficial geographical knowledge and social status.
She is a magician. She turns a piece of common glass into diamond;
the larger the diamond is, the bigger love will be.
She throws the rocks and clipping of your own garden into your soup
pot and you wonder what that interesting flavor is.
I don't blame her. She is sincere. We are dumb.
She knows we are.
We know she knows. But it doesn't make a difference.
She breaks the spell in front of our eyes. She gives away her formulas
and tricks for free. But it doesn't make a difference.
She proves to us that we don't need her, that we can make it, that
the American Dream only works if you are not asleep.
But it doesn't make a difference.
She won't wake us up, no matter how hard she tries.
She sells the emperor's new clothes, his ethereal crown and castle
at outrageous prices. We buy them.
We buy them all. She tests our limits.
And I wonder, who can blame it on her if there is such a good market?

Call for Artist: "2004
International Assemblage Artist Exhibition"
September 1, 2004 until September 30, 2004
Berlin, Germany
On September 1, a unique occasion in the very heart of Europe will
bring together internationally renowned assemblage artists from
all over the world. For the month of September, GALLERY twenty-four,
Berlin's premier gallery for autodidactic and undiscovered artists
from arould the world, will be presenting this year's top finalists
in its "International Assemblage Artist Exhibition."
Join assemblage artists from a myriad of countries who will exhibit
their work in the space of GALLERY twenty-four, in the increasingly
popular cultural scene of Berlin-Friedrichshain. As part of the
competition, participants will be invited to submit works of art
for jury selection and compete for allocated cash prizes and a solo
exhibition in Berlin, Germany. The artworks chosen and exhibited
will then form a catalogue as well as constitute this year's exhibition.
Gallery twenty-four has additionally reserved its studio spaces
for use by assemblage artists who may wish to come to Berlin during
August or September to complete pieces for the show. Artist can
apply for either an individual studio space or work in a collective
studio for as little as one week or as many as eight weeks between
August 1 - September 30, 2004. Special weekly rates for the studios
apply for the assssemblage artists using this offer. The spaces
will be made available on a first come first serve basis. For more
details about the space available visit: www.artlineberlin.org
.
The subsequent studio event will be a prelude to the exhibition
and is aimed at raising the level of awareness for assemblage art
and the event itself. Additionally, the artists who have studio
space during the exhibition from September 1 - September 30 will
be able to demonstrate the process of creating assemblage to the
viewing public.

ATTENTION ALL ARTISTS:
To fit in with the true coffeehouse setting and spirit, I am interested
as the new owner of the Arabica Brunswick to have regularly
scheduled entertainment, poetry readings, display off artwork and
the like to enhance the community. This would be a great opportunity
for Brunswick residents to be introduced to YOU and also to Arabica.
I plan on doing the advertising and I am sure that Augusto
Fine Art would publicize the events as well. Any interested
individuals or groups, please contact me at the above number or
via email list above. I look forward to hearing from YOU and welcome
each of you to stop into Arabica Brunswick.
