ARTIST STATEMENT

Writing an "artist's statement" has got to be an artist's most daunting task. I've read statements from all sorts of artists and most are attempts at portraying personal artistic visions that are just barely accessible to the "common" man. Imagine the pressure to try to come up with something to say about my art that is practically incomprehensible, raises me the level of art-god and uses language that only an art critic can understand?!?!

Hmmm......

I'm one of those people who has always done art in one form or another. As a child, it was my solace in troubled times, my road to notoriety socially, and my greatest joy. All those things are still true. I'm very lucky to have had this art thing as a focus throughout my lfe...it has been the one constant in a constantly changing environment.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Nature provides us forms in flux. Clouds, water, waves and weather are in continual turmoil in the California landscape and coastal seascape, moving and churning through sequences of varying aspects. Their moods can vary from tranquil to ominous. My art is concerned with these changing moods of our surroundings, not only to capture the moments of individual moods, but also to convey the movement from one landscape environment to another.

Prisoners of the Prism (oil on canvas)

ARTIST STATEMENT

The forms and their relationship to the human body allow me to turn flat, planar images around on their own axis, ultimately creating a three dimensional illusion. Volume is the thus created, especially with the assistance of the spatial inter-relationship of lines, movement and geometric planes, thus producing an almost crystalline perspective of reality.

By conscious manipulation of the diverse elements, I create an alter ego that speaks the dichotomous language of Ying and Yang which divides the soul of every man. By exploring the diverse elements of the human figure and its many reflections and projections, I see a different concept of self and reality, in the same way that a crystal reflects and diffracts its own inner and outer realities. I combine this technique with my internal passion, allowing this emotional element to fuse all disparity into the segmental wholeness of myself.
