The Art Fix is an electronic venue of free and alternative promotion and distribution of art and literature. It is not a representing art agency. We don't charge fees for promotion; we don't sell, or get commissions for the sales of artwork, books, bobbleheads, washing machines, kitchenware or puppies resulting from our efforts.

Richard Meyer

Woman at a gate with a dancing dog (detail )

ABOUT THE ARTIST

He uses pastel and oil paint with vigorous and disturbed impasto to create emerging shapes, and is mesmerised by colour. Portraits, landscapes and figure studies still provide the rigour and discipline necessary for more imaginative works that combine these elements.

He has a doctorate in ecology from Glasgow University, and has also worked as animal keeper, scientist, conservationist, and can muck out the stables of an elephant.

ARTIST STATEMENT
People from the New World traveled to this country with their diseases, their wars, and their ignorance. It all but wiped out the Native American Indians. Today, thousands of dollars are now spent on artifacts and clothing made by the Indians. I am inspired by their clothing, and hope to honor their heritage. Pocahontas and Sacagawea are well-known Native American Indian names, but little is know of the other women. The "Spirit of the Dance" Series celebrates these women. The women were multi-taskers then, as now. They took care of the children, made the clothing, prepared the food. When they danced they were in their "Spirit." Women have had many roadblocks in life: people, circumstances, and self imposed limitations. When a woman dances she is in her full power. May all women heed the dance and achieve their full potential.
