ARTIST STATEMENT

My work displays a genuine interest in the human figure, incorporating the human psyche with a personalized mythology. They are filled with humor, pathos and an introspective look at life. In order to heighten the emotional _expression of the work I combine a classical style with a surreal imagery. The allegorical figures create images that are strong in movement and complexity. The works are influenced by literature, observation of life, and an early introduction to art and therefore are made to suggest a narrative. I am mostly self-trained as a figurative artist, however the real education began as a child with the desire to create. I was first introduced to art while visiting the New York World’s fair. Upon seeing Michelangelo’s Florentine Pieta I was awed, even as a child the more than life like sculpture had a profound effect that moved me to pick up pencil and paper. The drawings were always sculptural so it was my natural tendency to realize those drawing into a sculptural form. My approach to drawing is to pull the 3- dimensional form to the front with strong lines and shading. I want the drawings to look like sculptures.

Arnold Isbister

ARTIST STATEMENT

...it's not just me who guides them but also the "Masters" and their paintings of whom by reproducting their style, color, application pass on ageless knowledge. By introducing the students to the Canons of ART they learn from the best and whose credentials they cannot question. From here I lead them into themselves from which they utilise the knowledge gathered to express, create and feel theirSelf. Also gained subconciously is self-esteem, confidence, insight and positive work ethics with goal-setting. The course has proven to be life-changing with many now pursuing University or are employed(or both) as opposed to the 'streets' where many would have stayed being lost in the darkness of back alleys. ART can reach and teach anybody, everybody can learn ART; it's our Nature. To imagine then create is inherant in our being, to express and feel is human, to explore the Mystery of "what is, what if" is divine being the genesis of all that is. It was Einstein who visualised Nature in graphic thought then painted the Universe in ways we never imagined.
